Fitter Body Ladies – Charity of the Year 2019

A growing local business has announced its first Charity of the Year partnership with local charity Northamptonshire Rape Crisis (NRC). Fitter Body Ladies (FBL) has been in Northampton since 2013 and has recently opened a new site in Wellingborough in addition to Milton Keynes, Wakefield and Basildon with more additions planned for 2019.

Co-owner of the business, Alexandra Knight, said “we wanted to give something back to the local community and, as we are a women only bootcamp, we felt that it was important for us to support a women’s charity.”

NRC have been supporting female survivors of sexual violence locally since 1986, and provides free counselling, group support and advocacy to women and girls aged 13+ from offices in Northampton and via outreach all over Northamptonshire. Debbie Galton from NRC said: “we were thrilled to hear that FBL had chosen us as their Charity of the Year for 2019. They’re an ideal fit for us as a corporate supporter and we are really excited to see their fundraising plans for the year. Not only do they focus on women’s fitness, but the mental health and wellbeing benefits of exercise and good nutrition are well known”.

The five FBL sites in Northampton, Wellingborough, Basildon, Wakefield and Milton Keynes will be organising a schedule of events and activities to raise funds for NRC throughout 2019. Kicking off in early February with a weekend of five-hour bootcamps in Northampton, where members and non-members can challenge themselves to a range of cardio and strength-based exercises over the course of five hours. Alexandra added: “our five-hour boot camp sessions are always really popular with our members as it gives them an opportunity to really test their fitness and endurance. We provide a healthy lunch and it’s great to see how positive everyone feels when they realise they can achieve something that sounds quite extreme. We thought it would be the ideal opportunity for people to kick-start their New Year fitness goals whilst we raise funds for the great work that NRC do locally.”

Debbie added: “As demand for our services continues to grow each year, we continue to look for new ways to fund our work with local survivors as well as raising awareness of violence against women and girls. This is our first Charity of the Year partnership and we hope other local businesses will join FBL in supporting our essential work”.
