Local businesswomen choose to challenge

Inspired by a talk from our CEO Dawn Thomas in March this year, a group of 16 local businesswomen challenged themselves to raise £2,000 for Northamptonshire Rape Crisis (NRC).

They aimed to raise funds to enable NRC to reach and support more people across Northamptonshire impacted by rape, sexual violence and sexual abuse. NRC supports people impacted by sexual violence whenever it happened, whether a recent incident, a long time ago or those who experience childhood sexual abuse.

They re-created the iconic song ‘I Am Woman’ with poignant images tracking their own lives from child to woman. Read more here https://www.northantslife.co.uk/local-businesswomen-sing-out-for-international-womens-day-2021/

A phenomenal response to their video raised £1,720 in donations.  But, they didn’t stop there. With incredible support from the wider business community who donated an astounding range of auction items they absolutely smashed their target and raised an additional £2,291. More than doubling their original target and exceeding £4,000. Their commitment to raising funds for NRC means that an additional 200 hours counselling can be delivered this year. Every week we hear how access to the right support at the right time helps people move on in their lives, this is the difference that can be made:

‘This was the best thing to happen to me – I feel like I’m quite emptied out of everything that’s hurt me, disappointed me, troubled me, tied me up, depressed me, confused me. Thank you…. Rape Crisis for being there for me. THANK YOU!’

Client Quote

‘I want to thank each and every one of you involved, for your dedication and commitment to make this happen. All those who contributed to this fundraising challenge and who donated such wonderful auction items. Your fundraising challenge was a massive success. In addition to this by talking about the work of NRC you’ve enabled us to raise awareness of our services to so many more people across the County. Already, in the first six months of this year we have seen an increase in numbers reaching out to us as we anticipated as we come out of lockdown. Every penny counts and your support enables us to provide services to more people when they need it most. Thank you!’
